Garden Cheng Chinese Restaurant
About This Spot
Walking into Garden Cheng Chinese Restaurant, you’re greeted by a warmly familiar rhythm—unpretentious and grounded in the simplicity of a home-cooked meal. Nestled in South Augusta, this husband and wife–run spot moves at an easy pace, where the focus gently settles on the food and quiet moments shared over the table. It’s the kind of neighborhood place where faces become familiar and the owners’ kindness quietly threads through the experience, remembered and returned with each visit.
The space itself isn’t flashy, but it feels like a pause from the rush—where the hum of casual conversation mingles with the soft clinking of dishes. It offers a straightforward, honest atmosphere, appealing to those who seek a reliable spot for familiar comfort without fuss.
Here, the menu shapes the rhythm of the meal without overwhelming it. The dishes—balanced between savory, tangy, and lightly spiced—invite a leisurely exploration of flavors rather than a hurried dive. Whether it’s the gentle crispness of wings tossed in red pepper, the comforting touch of egg drop wonton soup, or the satisfying harmony in a classic sesame chicken, the food echoes the welcoming, no-frills spirit that anchors the restaurant.
Garden Cheng doesn’t ask for your attention with high drama, but it quietly rewards those who appreciate consistency and a touch of personal care. It’s a place that feels part of the neighborhood fabric—where the pace is gentle, the food straightforward, and the connection genuine.

Ok we eat at various Chinese & Japanese restaurants 6 or 7 times a month. Despite South Augusta having close to a Dozen places, only a 2, sometimes 3 are worth the trip and price. We recently started using Garden Cheng a Husband and Wife run location early last year ago. After seeing issues at our previously, former local Chinese food area location. Up front, it is food we come for and not to eat in As it only has a few tables and 95+% of the business is locals ordering picking up and booking it home to eat. Chicken Fried Rice 9/10 - not greasy, done well, and we just add a little more salt. Sweet-n-Sour Chicken 9/10 - not greasy, done well and taste great as is. Fried Chicken Wings 10/10 for plain, and 9/10 for Chinese and 8/10 for Teriyaki Pork Egg Rolls - 10/10+++ Loaded up, done right, taste great, crispy and no cooking oil dripping at a great price. The Wife who is also the asst cook and cashier is consistently sweet, polite and quick in handling orders. The husband is also just as nice and polite. We have tried this location now dozens of times, since last year and have yet to find any issue with an order and food. Like we said, the food is great, low-priced and the place really caters to take customers. Our usual order of 16 Wings, 6 Pork Egg Rolls and drinks runs around $21 plus the $2 tip.

It's not that it's delicious. It's not that bad either. It's just normal.but I don’t like the fried rice tho.

Great wings and soup for sure. Try the egg drop WonTon for a great combo taste.

Great sesame chicken and shrimp fried rice with sweet tea, and the lady is so kind. She also remembers her customers
